New Economics Institute

The Summit will be coordinated by a group of dedicated Appalachian State Sustainable Development and Sociology students who have been awarded a $3,000 grant from the New Economics Institute.

“The mission of the New Economics Institute is to build a New Economy that prioritizes the well-being of people and the planet.

In 2013,the New Economics Institute, through their Campus Network program, awarded 14 campus groups across North America to hosting “strategic summits on the New Economy” on their campuses and in their communities. In addition to financial support, the New Economics Institute is providing these young leaders with training, access to networks, and on-going support.

The goal of these summits is to raise awareness about the New Economy on college campuses, build meaningful collaborations between students and their local communities, and lay the groundwork for building a just and sustainable economy in the long term. The hope is that this will catalyze a nationwide movement among college students and create a powerful network of student leaders committed to building the New Economy.”
