Saturday April 6th – 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM
Watauga County Public Library Meeting Room – 140 Queen Street · Boone, NC
A Participatory Budgeting Workshop, led by the Fund for Democratic Communities (F4DC), will be held Saturday April 6th from 2pm until 4pm at the Watauga Public Library. The workshop is free and open to the public.
A project in NYC defines Participatory Budgeting (PB) as “a democratic process in which community members directly decide how to spend part of a public budget. It enables taxpayers to work with government to make the budget decisions that affect their lives.” It’s a tool for increasing engagement by empowering residents to create possibilities within their communities. It can be used by neighborhoods, cities, and even universities.
- F4DC will be joined by members of PB Greensboro, a group that is working to bring a PB process to Greensboro.
- The workshop will introduce the idea of PB and lead a mock PB process that will allow participants to experience the process in action and take the first steps toward identifying possibilities for their communities.
